High mountain round trip

The hotel's own machine-made tracks on Slättfjället for both classic and skate skiing.

The hotel's own machine-made tracks on Slättfjället for both classic and skate skiing. Although the track is weather-sensitive in the middle of the bare mountain, it is a ski tour with 360-degree mountain views on a clear day.

Krister Hallberg, sports manager here at the hotel for many years, is the creator behind the track. He was inspired to create a cross-country trail on Slättfjället after following his children around Sweden on various mountain top races. So in 2008 Krister decided to found Högfjällsrundan here at Storhogna.

The track is prepared for both classic and skate, the route has been dependent on the availability of snow. However, the start and finish have always been the same, and the track always passes the Samevistet restaurant.

In order to prepare the track, the snow has to settle, so that the track machine can make its way without damaging the sensitive mountain terrain. It also prevents the track from drifting again immediately, which means that it takes some time into the season before the track is ready, usually in February.

Högfjällsrundan is not groomed on a daily basis because strong winds and snow can quickly fill the track, making grooming pointless. Later in the season, when the snow has settled after periods of thaw, the track becomes firmer.

The high mountain trail, marked with orange sticks, offers a fantastic experience with 360 degree mountain views on a clear day. However, in harsh mountain weather or poor visibility, the tour is not recommended.

Start: Outside the hotel at the track map and ends at the same place.
Length: 10 km round trip
Path profile: The distance from Storhogna to Samevistet is just over three kilometres, which is not particularly strenuous. The road starts with a slight uphill slope, but after a while you reach the flat bare mountain where you can enjoy a panoramic view of 360 degrees. The trail then goes back on the flat cold mountain then down the valley again to the finish.

Information on when the track was last groomed is available at skidspar.se
